St. Theodosius Cathedral Fire Restoration Nears the End of Phase 1

Phase 1 fire restorations of Tremont’s St. Theodosius Cathedral (733 Starkweather Ave.) is nearing completion. Crews recently set the superstructure roof cylinder that will support the 12 stain glass windows and main cathedral dome on repaired and bolstered original steel and wood trusses. Once funds are raised, the temporary longterm roof cap will be removed, and the main cathedral dome will be set in its place.

Tremont residents Andrew and Keri November caught the October superstructure installation on video and submitted their footage to The Tremonster, and St. Theodosius priest and dean Jan Cizmar spoke with us about this important stage of the cathedral’s fire restoration.

With the temporary roof cap in place, work will soon turn indoors to restoring the cathedral interior. A new donation campaign will seek to raise the additional funds needed to finally remove the roof cap and replace the cathedral’s main dome.

The church is accepting cathedral fire restoration donations on its website.
