Tremont West Development Corporation has contracted with historic preservation consultants Naylor Wellman, LLC for creation of a National Register Historic District along Scranton Rd. between Parafine and Valentine Avenues.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of properties recognized by the federal government as worthy of preservation for their local, state, or national significance in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, or culture. This project became a priority for Tremont West and Scranton Road stakeholders following a community engagement process that was initiated in December 2012.
This Historic District will further the sense of place and give identity to the neighborhood and also provide the opportunity for historic tax credit projects for income producing buildings located within the District. Historic preservation of these buildings helps to stabilize and increase property values, strengthen the local economy, and enhance the community’s attractions to prospective residents, businesses and tourists. It is also hoped that this Historic District will encourage re-development within the Historic District that are compatible with local historic character. This project does not include creation of a City of Cleveland Local Historic District.
Naylor Wellman will be photographing and documenting the exteriors of houses, buildings and institutions within this area for architectural and historic significance with most on-site work conducted on the upcoming weekends.
