Dark Silver II: 12X at Mastroianni Photography and Arts Opens on March 13

Dark Silver II 12X

by Steve Mastroianni

Dark Silver II: 12X is the second installment in the new series devoted to portraits made with traditional black & white film and processed in the darkroom. For the new set of portraits, a series of parameters were created to provide a framework for the portraits. Photographs were made in the studio with a twin lens reflex (TLR) medium format camera, under a similar lighting scheme utilizing continuous hot lights and a seamless backdrop, and each subject was limited to one roll of film (12 exposures). Then, an enlarged proof sheet was created in the darkroom from each roll of film, and each proof sheet is displayed as part of an installment of the entire set of portraits. As a result, each and every shot taken of each subject can be seen; nothing was edited out. Continue reading

Permitting Alcohol in Ohio Art Galleries

by Rich Weiss “The fact is utterly unknown to the hundreds of revelers inside. Grace and Smith could have saved their lives that night—the great unknown is the number of lives saved by the Fire Prevention Bureau’s spot-checks and nit-picking.  Good deeds don’t get press.  Disasters do.” This chilling statement…

Joan Deveney, a veteran of the Cleveland art and poetry world, organized this year’s annual Stupid Cupid exhibit, a Robert Ritchie inspired Valentine’s Day installation at the Doubting Thomas Gallery this past February, which featured over 20 participating artists familiar and new to ArtWalk regulars. Andy Timithy, on 20 Years of ArtWalk

Our next testimonial on 20 Years of Artwalk comes from Andy Timithy, who appears in Steven Mastroianni’s portrait, below, with Linda Baldizzi, co-owner of the Literary Cafe, located at 1031 Literary Road (216.308.1962).  This is a correction, as The Tremonster misprinted another image for Andy and Linda in the printed edition.  We…

Mark Keffer, on 20 Years of ArtWalk

By tragic omission, Mark Keffer’s testimonial on 20 Years of ArtWalk was cut off the end of the article in the print version of The Tremonster.  The unique perspective he brings to the collective memory of ArtWalk is as unique as his work, itself.  For that reason, we chose this…
