History of the Walleye Drop

The “Walleye Drop” idea came to life when “Drop Man” Dan Sedlak, with the support of the “Big Fish” Mayor Tom Brown, presented his idea to the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau and the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce. With the assistance of John Fellhauer, John’s dad-Bob, Dan’s brother Kevin and Ron Miller of OurGuest Inn, the Drop became a reality that cold December of 1996, and 20 years later the event is a huge success!

The event is an outdoor celebration (other than the heated tent) and its not uncommon to face less than 10-degree weather with the “special” Lake Erie wind chill! So bundle up! Brrrrrr….. Continue reading

Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival 2015

Celebrating Tremont’s rich ethnic and cultural diversity and its vibrant arts and entertainment scene, the Festival has become an annual tradition for thousands of Greater Clevelanders. The Festival is presented by Merrick House and co-presented by Tremont West Development Corporation and  Cleveland Ward 3 Councilman Joe Cimperman, and is made possible with the generous support of many sponsors and volunteers.

CMSD kicks off attendance campaign

CMSD is waging a communitywide campaign – complete with billboards, yard signs, bus placards and radio spots – aimed at raising school attendance.

The “Get to School. You Can Make It!” campaign will target an epidemic: In nearly two-thirds of District schools, more than half of the students are chronically absent – defined as missing 10 days or more per year. Continue reading

Santiago $10 per Puerto Rican Dinner Fundraiser

Jim Santiago held a $10 Puerto Rican dinner fundraiser after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.  His daughter is going to Europe, so this entrepreneurial Tremonster rolled up his sleeves and threw a Puerto Rican cookout party for his neighbors in the W 14th Street & Bhurer Avenue area in support of the trip.

Santiago charged $10 per person for a share of two large outdoor grills worth of his “West Side Barbeque,” which attracted many customers with an irresistible aroma that filled the streets of Tremont’s lower east side after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

If you missed it, don’t worry — Santiago has another $10/Puerto Rican dinner fundraiser planned for after 2:00 p.m. on June 14, in his yard at 1328 Buhrer Avenue. Continue reading
